Outernet

Outernet FAQs

what is Outernet?

Outernet is an app that helps you go outside and adventure, by removing the labor between wanting to do something and actually doing it.

You can send in any place or event you want to check out, and Outernet will research it for you, then turn it into a plan, with all the info you need to know to go. Your adventures are pinned on a map and organized in a calendar. You can sort adventures into collections, and invite friends to join those collections. We’ll also remind you of your upcoming plans and nudge you to go explore.

what is the Explorer’s Club?

The Explorer’s Club is Outernet’s paid subscription plan. Members of the Explorer’s Club get more daily imports, greater customization, and close access to the founders to help shape the Outernet! We’re always thinking of additional perks to make the Explorer’s Club more worthwhile, so reach out anytime with ideas.

why is there a daily import limit?

The purpose of Outernet is to help people go out and explore! So we want to encourage users to only save things they’re really excited about, then stop scrolling, and get outside and do those things. If people imported all the places/events they had mild interest in, the app would feel cluttered and overwhelming, inspiring analysis paralysis instead of excitement.

Also, more practically, each import has real data and processing costs that we need to cover, so we need to strike a balance with what we can offer!

is Outernet a discovery app for finding things to do?

Not primarily. There are already hundreds of discovery apps, and besides, most people find the things they want to do through Tiktok, Instagram, and Google. Instead, Outernet turns the things you already want to do into researched, organized adventures that you can go on, then helps you explore them.

We’re experimenting with highly customized recommendations in a few large cities, and may have additional recommendation features in the future, but Outernet is not a primarily discovery-based app.

what types of things can I save to Outernet?

You can save any place or event to Outernet, anywhere in the world! Since Outernet is built to help you go outside and explore, it’s only intended for saving places and events.

what sources can I import to Outernet?

You can import directly from TikTok, Instagram, your camera roll, and most website URLs. Anything else can be screenshotted and sent in.

can I add friends on Outernet?

You can share collections with friends so everyone can add saves and leave notes together. We’re exploring more social features for the future.

what do people use Outernet for?

Everything from weekend adventures with family, to after-work sidequests, to fun dates, to vacations filled with exploration! Anything you want to do out in the world, you can plan with Outernet.

can I suggest new features?

Yes, we would love to hear your feature requests! Outernet is still very early, so our users help shape the app. Just make sure any requests are aligned with our goal to get people outside exploring.

when will my feature request be built?

We prioritize requests based on how many users ask for them and how closely they align with our mission of helping people to get out and explore. Members of the Explorer’s Club receive priority for feature requests, as the champions sustaining and growing the app.

Outernet is so cool and fun, and the founders lowkey have so much aura. how can I support it?

The best way to support us is to become a member of the Explorer’s Club! Spreading the word to friends and family and giving us a 5-star review on the app store are also super helpful :)

my question isn’t frequently asked!
